Just when I thought things were finally settling down around here, I began hearing comments about "The Puppy." I was pretty sure that motherhood was not in my future, so I wrote it off as my imagination. Until the day that Tootie appeared. Of course, I couldn't get too upset because she's my very first granddaughter, but isn't she supposed to live with her parents and bring me gifts on the holidays? Oh well, at least she inherited my love for mischief, and has already learned to counter surf like a pro. I'm very proud.

Tootie is definitely an independent spirit, just like me. She loves hanging out with the family, but also enjoys hunting for tasty treats in the backyard. In recent months, Tootie has become quite fascinated by dirt. She intially expressed this interest by digging holes, but then decided that pulling up large clumps of grass was far more satisfying. You could say that Tootie has turned sod removal into a sport. I encourage this, because when she's not chewing on grass, she's chewing on me. Given my tolerant nature, I usually let it go, but I think it's time for her to find a new chew toy. Java would be a fine choice.

Speaking of Java, it took her awhile to warm up to Tootie, who never seems to show much respect for her elders. As you know, Java is quite attached to her woobies. Unfortunately, Tootie likes them too, and in spite of the numerous stuffed toys at her disposal, only seems to want what Java already has. I told Java to let the little thief have her way because Mom will feel sorry for us and give us extra cookies. As usual, I was right. Urp.

I know that Tootie is destined to be a showgirl, because she's got my good looks and charm. Mom has been training her to behave in the ring, but I'm not sure it's going too well. I've tried to help by giving Tootie my own special hints and tips. For example, judges like to see expression, so bite Mom's fingers really hard when you grab the bait. That makes her very expressive! And always move your feet so the judges can see how well you can dance! I hope Mom fully appreciates the wealth of knowledge I'm passing down to my granddaughter.

All in all, I kinda like having Tootie around, especially when I do something naughty and she gets blamed. A gray face can sure keep a girl out of trouble! Tootie is so much like me that I know she has the potential to achieve greatness, be it winning in the show ring or chasing bunnies in the yard. If she listens to my every word, she just might do okay. When I'm not dreaming of cookies, I'm dreaming that Tootie will carry on my legacy to future generations. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to mold her into an outstanding member of the Golden community. And spoiling her just a little along the way. After all, isn't that what grandmas are for?
